Honeymoons & romance

Honeymoons you'll still be talking about in thirty years

Built on cruises and all-inclusive resorts, because that's what works for a honeymoon. Everything arranged in advance. Nothing to organize once you're there.

You'll be more tired than you expect. Everyone is. So the best honeymoon is the one where your hardest decision after landing is which pool. That's exactly why I build them on cruises and all-inclusives instead of complicated multi-stop itineraries.

What shape should your honeymoon take?

The resort honeymoon

One place, one unpacking, and a room category chosen properly. This is the right answer for most couples, and the whole thing turns on the room. Swim-up access, a butler tier, a quieter section of beach, a club lounge worth using. At the Sandals and Hyatt Inclusive properties I'm certified with, moving up a tier changes the trip more than changing resort would.

The cruise honeymoon

Several places, one unpacking. Underrated for honeymoons, and particularly good if you're the kind of couple who'd get restless after four days on one beach. The cabin decision matters more than usual here — a balcony earns its money on a honeymoon in a way it doesn't on a family sailing.

The combination

A week's sailing followed by four or five nights at a resort to decompress before flying home. It's the most-requested thing I book in this category, and it's the best of both if you have the days.

The perks — and why timing decides whether you get them

Nearly every cruise line and resort group runs a honeymoon or celebration program. Almost none of it happens automatically. The room upgrade. The bottle on arrival. The private dinner on the beach, the spa credit, the late checkout on your last day. Somebody has to request every one of those against your booking — often weeks out, sometimes with documentation.

Mentioning it at check-in gets you a card on the pillow. Having it flagged at booking, chased at thirty days, and reconfirmed the week before is how you actually get the upgrade. That's the part I do.

On top of that, Signature Travel Network benefits stack on many properties and sailings — resort credit, onboard credit, breakfast, early check-in. I'll tell you exactly what's available on your booking rather than what's theoretically possible.

Honeymoon registries

If you'd rather have the trip than the tableware, most of what I book can be set up so guests contribute toward it. Worth raising early — it changes how we structure the payment schedule.

Timing, which nobody plans for

Two things people consistently get wrong.

The first is leaving the day after the wedding. It sounds romantic and it's brutal — you'll spend the first two days of an expensive trip asleep. A buffer day, or a "minimoon" now and the real trip three months later, is almost always the better call.

The second is names. Your flights and your cruise booking must match your passport exactly. If you're changing your name, that process takes longer than you think. A booking in a name your passport doesn't carry is a problem at a check-in desk, not a paperwork detail. Book in your current legal name and we'll deal with it properly.

LGBTQ+ honeymoons

Chad and I have planned our own, so this isn't theoretical. Some destinations are welcoming in law and hostile in practice. Some resorts market to same-sex couples and then hand you two twin beds. I'll tell you which properties and which itineraries I'd send friends to.

Congratulations — let's plan it

Tell me your date and roughly what you're imagining. I'll come back with options that fit both.
